    Peru Lacks Resources to Protect its Forests

    The government agencies responsible for protecting Peru’s forests lack the staff and resources necessary to protect and monitor the vast area which accounts for 53% of Peruvian territory, according to a report published by the Office of the Peruvian Human Rights Ombudsman (Defensoría del Pueblo).

    New Peruvian Film in the UK

    Javier Fuentes-León's Undertow (Contracorriente) won the Audience Award at this year's Sundance Film Festival.

    Argentinian Oscar winner, The Secret in Their Eyes (El secreto de sus ojos), stars Ricardo Darín.

    Oliver Stone's documentary on some of South America's left-leaning governments, South of the Border, opened in cinemas in the UK on 30 July.

    New British Ambassador to Peru

    The new British Ambassador to Peru, James Dauris, has officially taken up his position in Lima. Mr Dauris was previously Deputy Head of Mission at the Colombian Embassy. Outgoing Ambassador, Catherine Nettleton, has been appointed Ambassador to Venezuela.

    BFI Southbank (London) - South American Renaissance Film Festival

    This August, the BFI Southbank in London is exploring the recent renaissance of filmmaking across South America.

    The season includes Peruvian films Dioses, a story of the 'haves' in contemporary Peruvian society, and Claudia Llosa's debut Madeinusa, alongside a variety of recent South American classics.
